Though Somalia lies next door to Ethiopia, its food is distinct. Somalis do have a form of spongy enjera, that bread Ethiopians use both as utensil and accompaniment to their stews. But the Somali version is mostly eaten for breakfast alongside liver and onions. It's less spongy, more like a pancake, and a bit more appetizing. Somalis do have scrumptious meat and chicken dishes, however, often served with basmati rice that has been flavored with cardamom and cinnamon, called bariis. And the meals served with it are equally gustable. Sukhaar is a traditional dish of tender beef chunks sauted with bits of scallion, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Hillib is goat meat, second only to camel flesh in the Somali culinary canon according to the folks at Juba. But as camel steak is difficult to acquire locally, hillib is the meat of choice for Somalis in the PHX.

This is the famous "Our Gang Restaurant" that has been located off 7th street for a while. The owners renamed the restaurant, changed the decor a little, but kept the same great menu (including the personal pizzas). This is worth a try - and great for large parties.

Town Talk II Creole Style Barbeque is the method in which our families' barbeque is prepared. Meats are cooked slowly over mesquite wood and basted with our special homemade sauce that has been handed down for generations. One can find the sauce to be zesty, lively and lavish in flavor. Creole Style Barbeque is unique and separates itself from other styles of barbeque. Years ago, when the country was young and full of spirit, families in small Louisiana communities would gather for celebrations. At these times, one could always count on a challenge to emerge in a friendly competitive manner. The competitions involved who would cook the best meats, and make the best Barbeque sauce. Side dishes were also desired with the best Red Beans and Rice, the best Dirty Rice, and the best of ANYTHING. When my Father, Burleigh Rideau Sr. (also known as Papu) moved to Phoenix in 1923, from the small community of Rideau, Louisiana, he brought with him the spirit of being the best. In 1949, he opened the original Town Talk Barbeque, on the corner for 12th Street and Washington. He cooked in a red brick pit, and made sauce from the family recipe. The unique blend of the meats, slow cooked over mesquite wood, with the mixture of his special sauce, provided one of the most flavorful meals to be enjoyed anywhere. That same great taste-with the perfect blend of meats and sauce has been reborn and can be found at Town Talk II.

There's no denying that Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen here in the Valley of the Sun. But gourmet Mexican (otherwise known as "gour-mex")?? Not so common. Which is why you need to try Padre's Modern Mexican Cuisine, where authentic and delicious Mexican food is served with flair and not just a little bit of boldness. Co-founder Denny Durbin lived in the heart of Mexico for more than two decades, where, in trendy San Miguel de Allende, he opened the innovative and popular Agave Azul restaurant in 1999. This was the prototype for Padre's here in Phoenix, which he and his wife Ivanne and their son Cole opened on Cinco de Mayo 2004. Executive chef Ivanne was born and grew up in Mexico City and Cuernavaca, Mexico. Her training? "After cooking for a family of 15 to 25 nightly," she laughs, "guess what? You're a chef!" Chef Victor Romero, formerly of the popular Richardson's Restaurant, joined the team to further refine Ivanne's original recipes, add even more fresh ingredients and provide special interpretations of classic recipes. Pastry Chef Kyle Kobs came on board to add some mouthwatering desserts to the already impressive menu. Padre's menu will surprise anyone familiar with American-Mexican food. Sure, you'll find tacos, enchiladas and burritos, but even these are served with a twist, like salmon spinach enchiladas in chipotle cream sauce, duck breast tacos, and a burrito filled with chargrilled chicken, sauted mushrooms, caramelized onions, aaxaca and cheddar cheese. You'll also be tempted by an array of seafood and other delectable dishes, such as grilled salmon with an orange-chile triple sec glaze, roasted pork tenderloin with mole verde, and even pasta. Pasta? In a Mexican restaurant? Durbin says absolutely. "You'll commonly find pasta on family dinner tables in much of Mexico." You'll be lucky if you have room for a main course if you sample the great appetizers.

It was a hot August night in 2001 when the doors of the little brick building on East Camelback Road finally opened to the public. It had been a long, arduous project to renovate the old buildings. Plumbing needed to be redone, kitchen fixtures and appliances had to be installed, bars, tables, parking lots paved, taps and booths all needed to be put in place. The list of construction projects seemed endless as the property and infrastructure got a complete makeover. However one local independent businessman knew that these old original bricks would shine up nice when complemented by the stained glass windows he envisioned and the pub type atmosphere that he so desired. But as we all know, "Good things come to those who wait" and after a year or more of construction the Sonora brewhouse was off and running in the summer of 2001. We served the beers of the separately owned Sonora Brewing Company. Our taps streamed with six of their regular beers, their cask conditioned ale, the Rootbeer and a myriad of seasonal ales. The Brewery already had a following as they had been in business since 1996. It was those followers that became the first pilgrims in our ever growing customer base.In the fall of 2004 the owners of Sonora Brewing Company sold their brewery and we were faced with some big decisions to either change our format or renovate our other buildings into a brewery. Never before had we even dreamed of being in the brewing business and now faced with it the thought seemed daunting. Reminders of past microbreweries that had tried and filed in the Central Corridor surfaced. In the end we jumped in and began yet another long construction renovation. The seven barrel system that looms behind the floor to ceiling glass in our Brewer's Den is the fruits of our labor and February 14, 2006 marked a new chapter in our history. You see, this was the day that the first three beers brewed on site flowed.

Our Mission... Is to sell hand-made, extremely fresh food, using no preservatives, additives or chemicals common to much of the 'prepared' and 'fast' food on the market today. High quality, genuine Italian food and value for money are the mainstay of our business.

I would like to welcome you to our restaurant Matadors. My family and I have been serving fine authentic Mexican food for more than 25 years in Phoenix, Arizona. Our restaurant has become a tradition for many Arizona family gatherings and well as the jet set (Sammy Davis Jr., Clint Eastwood just to name a few.) You also might catch many local, state and national politicians at a table right next to you. We are well known for our frothy margaritas, our delicious Mexican entrees and our "Greek Taco's". Everything in Matadors is made fresh daily. Nothing comes from a can and there are no preservatives. Our salsa, hot sauce, guacamole, tamales and everything else is homemade. The tacos are made from shredded beef, not ground meat. We even make our own Menudo with tripe, beef feet (patas), hominy, corn and spices. Popular dishes include our Huevos Rancheros, Lengua Con Chili and our Beef Tougue in Green Sauce. Come by on Wednesday or Sunday to enjoy our Mexican stew called Cocido. When you do visit us make sure not to try one of our fantastic desserts including our deep-fried marble cheesecake. Of course all of our fantastic food is available for take-out as well as party trays for group events and if you need to host your event we can handle groups up to 300. We have also added online ordering directly from our web site for dine-in or take-out making it even easier to indulge in our great food.
