From a long time ago the pupusa was a typical meal exclusive for Salvadorians. Its original and delicious flavor has not only conquered other countries in Central America but also has made its way to the United States and other parts of the world.Pupusa are made from a combination of corn or rice dough with string cheese, fried beans, and grinded pork. It's name comes from a Mayan word meaning "sacred food" which indicates that it was initially used as an offering to the gods.Way of preparation:A "Pupusera" (pupusa specialist), manually molds a handful of dough until soft, adding the cheese, beans, pork (or a combination of the three ingredients). She then uses both hands to flatten it in a tortilla form and then places it on a pre-heated clay pan (comal), where it cooks in about 5 minutes. True "pupuseras" can mold up to 6 pupusas per minute! Pupusas are served hot, topped by a dilled type of slaw called curtido, and accompanied by a hot or cold beverage.For those who still haven't tried pupusas, we are sure that ours will enchant your plate.

Save your gas, because you can now get all of that and a lot more right here in town. Just head over to Dumar's Mediterranean Grill and Grocery. It's a great new place serving middle eastern favorites with an outdoor patio and some of the friendliest service in town. Located on Highway 6 and Austin Parkway, in the same plaza with Sears Hardware.Middle Eastern food lovers will not be disappointed at Dumar's, the food here is great. The secret to good middle eastern food is that it's got to be very fresh and prepared according to tradition. Dumar's get's it done in both aspects. Everything is made fresh daily, from the Kebeh Balls (rolled cracked wheat stuffed with meat and nuts), to the Hummus, Taboulih and Babaganouj. The owner, Mr. Bashar F. Dumar and his wife Ilham are natives of the Middle-Eat and do all of the cooking themselves. Even the Baklava dessert is made by hand.They make sure everyone is satisfied, including those who may require Hookah products. In additon to a full line of Middle-Easterb groceries, Dumar's also features fresh feta cheeses, several types of brined olives, gyro sandwiches, greek salads, and spinach pies. A friendly atmosphere and a beautiful outdoor patio makes Dumar's the place to try when you want a taste of the Middle-East or just need to grab some imported delicacies. By the way, Mr. Dumar the owner is also a former jewler and does jewelry repairs on site. So bring your scrap gold or watches that need batteries.

We opened in 1990 and are still around, trying to preach the gospel that there really is no food as wonderful as Indian food. Now, almost twenty years later we have converted several connoisseurs; some forcefully, but mostly by offering our seductive cuisine. The critics themselves think we are great and have even given us awards now and then. Some guests have even invited us over to feed their friends, which we do with pleasure, providing fine china, linen and the works. Some just ask us to drop it off and leave, but we watch them through the windows and see them hungrily devour our creations. We have even married a few of our customers off; weddings from 50 to 2000 guests--we've done them all. We love to see everybody here, because this is our social life. We never leave our restaurant night or day, we cut and chop and boil and bake, stir and shake just for you, our dear guests, because we want you back with your friends--even dragging them in by force if you have to - we will be gentle with them. If you throw a party, call us. We'll cater it and it will be the talk of the town for quite a while.Food has always been a passionate subject for us. We delight in the preparation of it, the presentation of it, and of course, in the partaking of it. We love it here - the Rice Village and Sugar Land Town Square are really our homes away from home - but most of all we love you, our dear guests.
