– White-Haired U.S. Respondents Report Highest Percentage in Likelihood to Take Financial Risks; Red Headed Respondents Report Lowest Percentage In Having A Six-Month Emergency Fund –
WHITING, Ind., January 31, 2013 – How much does appearance factor into lifestyle? According to a new CouponCabin.com survey, hair color, while just one physical characteristic of many, may be an indicator of certain financial and lifestyle decisions. The survey reveals how blondes, brunettes, gray-haired, red-haired respondents*, white-haired respondents, and black-haired Americans stack up financially and socially. This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin from January 14th – January 16th, 2013, among 2,050 U.S. adults ages 18 and older.
Financial Risk Taking
When it comes to going out on a money limb, white-haired respondents reveal the highest percentage when asked how often they take calculated financial risks. Nearly half (49 percent) of white-haired respondents report they at least sometimes take financial risks like borrowing for short-term investments or seeking out unique and high payout investments.
Black-haired Americans were next in line at 42 percent, followed by blondes (41 percent), brunettes and red-headed respondents, (both at 35 percent) and lastly by gray-haired Americans (31 percent).
Red-headed respondents report the lowest percentage when asked if they have a six-month liquid emergency fund, with nearly eight-in-ten (79 percent) saying they don’t currently have one. Black-haired, brunette, and blonde Americans were the next least likely to have one, at 67 percent, 59 percent and 53 percent. Gray-haired adults (51 percent) and white-haired respondents (65 percent) reported the highest percentages of claiming they do have a six-month emergency fund.
More than half (54 percent) of gray-haired Americans and 53 percent of white-haired respondents agree that hair color can influence your relationship status, such as whether or not you’re dating someone or married.
More than one-third (37 percent) of white-haired respondents and black-haired Americans agree that hair color can influence your social status, including how many friends you have and how well liked you are. Brunettes (36 percent) and blondes (35 percent) are close behind in this opinion, followed by gray-haired Americans and red-haired respondents, both at 34 percent.
53 percent of gray-haired and 43 percent of white-haired respondents agree that hair color can influence your success at your job, such as how quickly you are promoted and how happy your clients are. Brunettes were next in line at 26 percent, followed by blondes (24 percent), black-haired Americans (23 percent) and red heads (20 percent).
This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Coupon Cabin from January 14th – January 16th, 2013, among 2,050 adults ages 18 and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. For complete survey methodology, including weighting variables, please contact Allison Kaplan, email@example.com.
* The subgroups of white-haired respondents and red-haired respondents both have low sample sizes of fewer than 100 respondents, 48 and 89 respectively. Due to their low sample sizes, the data from these groups does not meet the target requirements that allow the data to be weighted to be nationally representative. These groups are thus defined as white-haired respondents and red haired respondents, rather than white-haired Americans or red-haired Americans.
