1. Join Rewards Before the First Order
Office Depot Rewards is free and gives members 2% back on qualifying purchases across supplies, furniture, technology, and more. Attach every qualifying order to your account from the start, and don’t let the savings sit. The rewards stay valid for at least 60 days before expiring.
“Breakage” is a retail strategy that relies on shoppers forgetting to use their points before they expire. Always keep track of your points so that they do not go unused.
2. Weigh the Teacher or Military Discount
Verified teachers and military members can get 25% back in Bonus Rewards on qualifying purchases through December 26, 2026, with a limit of $100 back in rewards per member per week. Go that route when the order qualifies and the return beats the standard 2% earn rate. Do not try to stack it with the VIP 5% or other Bonus Rewards offers, as the savings will not stack.
3. Track the $500 VIP Threshold
VIP status starts after you spend $500 within a 365-day period, and the benefits begin 30 days after the qualifying purchases post. VIP members get 5% back on ink and toner, case, ream, and photo paper, plus copy, print, and other in-store print-center products and services. Track your progress and use planned orders to cross the line, but don’t force extra spending that will end up costing you more.
Since the standard rewards rate is already 2%, moving up to VIP only adds another 3%. Spending an extra $100 to earn just $3 more is not a smart tradeoff. The better move is to let VIP happen naturally through purchases that were already planned.
4. Utilize Business Select If the Fee Pays for Itself
Business Select costs $49 per year and includes $50 in Service Depot Dollars plus up to 20% off thousands of products. Use it only if you already spend on print, pack and ship, setup, repair, or repeated supply orders. If you will not use the included service value and the product discounts quickly, skip it.
